Chasing PassionOctober 15, 2015 . .
I like to think that one of my great qualities is my age and wisdom.
It has taken a number of years, a lot of grey hair, and a fair number of battle scars to learn a series of invaluable life lessons, that I now eagerly share with rising younger leaders. One of the best realizations that I have come across is that life is too short to do things that I don’t like doing. I can now confidently say that everyday I can’t wait to get out there and fearlessly chase my passion – namely helping people and businesses discover their remarkable potential.
As a fearless, life-long leader, today, my “Pinch Me” moments come: when I am doing a turn around on a business, building a simple strategy, or standing in front of a classroom of eager-to-learn leaders. There is nothing more rewarding than doing these three things.
What can I then give as a number one piece of advice? Chase passion. No matter what it is, chase passion. Money will take care of itself when you are chasing passion. You will be happier, more fulfilled and a better leader, spouse, partner, parent and friend.
Here’s a great example:
A past client of mine was a world-class Architecture firm. Amazing team. Great design work. At the beginning of the engagement, they were booking solid revenue, yet little was falling to the bottom line. For this reason, the team of partners were apologetic for not knowing more about running a business.
My philosophy to them was this… “If you love architecture, chase that. Be the best there is at it. You hired me to run your business for you, so there’s no need to worry about that. Just hit the ball out of the park doing what you love. Don’t stress that you struggle with the business side of business. I don’t stress the fact that I do not know anything about architecture – I stick to my passion.”
In three years, their profitability grew 196%. They have built on their reputation has leaders in the industry.
This is the perfect example of how sticking to your passion will take your further than you imagined, and the best part it – you’ll love doing it. Those three years flew by for the architects, because they loved being there. Even better, their results were top notch and their clients were happy. My three years with them also flew by, because I was there doing what I love, and I got them to profitability that they probably never even dreamed of.
Moral of the story = chase your PASSION.
