The Story

Smrt revolutionizes the way people learn English as a second language. They harness technology to create innovative digital curricula and toolkits for teachers to enable them to deliver the highest possible quality of education for their students. 

The leadership at Smrt reached out to Mike for help with team building and preparing for growth. The founder was also looking to develop maturity in the organization so that he could start to let go of the reigns and eventually move towards succession over the next decade.

COVID-19 had a devastating impact on many businesses – not so for a digital learning platform! Due to Smrt’s amazing platform for online learning, the pandemic led to a boost in their business. As the world shifted back to normal, the leadership at Smrt needed to find a way to continue making the massive impact they know they can and should make.

That’s why one of the first things Incrementa worked with Smrt on is to help them ensure their purpose is crystal clear so that everyone in the organization understands the value they create and align around that purpose. Smrt is faster and better than others at teaching English as a second language, which allows schools that partner with them to increase their impact. 

When it came time to focus on organizational culture, Mike helped them distill their core values (who they are as a business) and behaviours (how they do things inside the business). By understanding these, the leadership was able to identify people who are the right fit for the organization.

The next focus of Incrementa’s collaboration with Smrt was to work on positioning and differentiation so that Smrt could figure out how to stay relevant through the pandemic transition by creating unique value compared to the competition. 

Smrt has become a healthier organization as a result of working with Incrementa, thanks to having a lot more role clarity and accountabilities. They were able to recognize and make changes to their teams to make them more effective and have developed the disciplines necessary to grow.
